It was a dark path, though everything was around here, dark that is. The world had never been seen, only felt beneath the feet of those who traveled it, only heard by the ears of those who listened, only smelled by those who stopped to take it in. The idea of sight was worshiped and prayed for, everyone wanted a chance to see what was not yet called color.
There were not very many of us, only 5. We stayed close at all times so as to not get lost for if you could not already infer, there was no such thing as light just yet. Every “day” if you could call them that, was the same. We would wake up, in what we felt out to be a very small clearing surrounded by apple trees, we picked said apples and ate till we felt full, than we wandered, lost in the dark, in one big circle until we felt that we had arrived back in our clearing, than we ate and went to sleep, there was not much talking done, not because we did not know how, but because there was not much to talk about, we could not look around and admire the colors, we could not stop and stare at the moon, for those things did not exist, not to our knowledge at least, and so we were silent, and we walked. This was all we did for what felt like months, years, life times, and yet we did not die, we just kept walking the same path every day. But alas, just as the sea corrodes the rock it crashes against, and time turns all it touches to dust, everything must change.
As i woke up that morning i called of to the others, and one by one they all called back, all except one, Delenious he was nowhere to be heard, and nowhere to be felt, panic broke out, the 4 of us scattering to the edges of the clearing calling his name, there was no response, after what i estimated to be an hour we all grouped back to the center to talk, at first it was all yelling, confusion, anger, annoyance, but all those emotions soon transformed to fear, for we were scared, what had happened to him, being the eldest of us he was the one who had lead every walk we ever took, he divided the apples evenly so as everyone ate, without him we were lost.
A day passed, then 2, then a week, we did not walk, we did not eat, and we did not even sleep, we sat and we waited, not a word was said, not a breath was heard for all we could feel was fear. This was until Arelia spoke, she was the second oldest and though she knew not what to do, she said what we were all thinking, “we must do something”. So we did we chose a direction and we walked, straight this time, we did not circle back we did not fear the unknown, or if we did we did not show it, we just searched, we called out every few minutes, looking far and wide with no expectation of every finding him, but we could not sit and wait.
After about an hour passed something happened. At first I thought I was dreaming, I squeezed the hands I held to check if they were real, and they were! I looked out into the distance and for the first time. I could see. 300 or so feet in the distance was light! Our slow walk turned into a swift sprint, forgetting the rough terrain we wan across, feeling the sting of the ground digging into our feet but that could not stop us, we ran and we ran until we were bathed in a warm yellow light. At first it was blinding, after a millennia of darkness our eyes took time to adjust to the light, but when they did it was like taking a breath we had been holding this whole time, it was as if the world was saying this is where we were meant to be all along there were 2 rows of massive trees towering over us like giants looking down on ants, the trees spanned as far as the eye could see about 30 feet apart, maybe 8 feet between each tree, and sitting not even 12 feet away there he was, Delenious.
We rushed to his side, again forgetting all about what had just happened until we saw him, we truly saw him, his skin smooth and caramel, his eyes a glittering gold, mixed with a beautiful sky blue, his hair curly like waves rolling into a beautiful beach, and his face, his face was that of a god, there was a warm smile that spread across his lips, and a light in his eyes that looked as though it would never go out. Everything was so overwhelming, taking in all of the new sights and colors it was as if we were new people entirely, we looked at eachother, staring at each until we memorized every feature, Arelia had a wider frame than Delenious but was no less beautiful, her skin was dark like a rich chocolat her eyes as brown as brown could be, and her hair put in 2 perfect braids that wrapped one around her head like a crown. Metlionus the youngest of us was small, very small, his skin paler than the rest of us, and his hair was a golden blond that reflected the light surrounding us, his eyes an emerald green and his skin as smoother than all of us. Then there was Analxi she was my favorite of my siblings, just older than metlionus, and similar in looks as well, her skin to was pale and smooth and her hair a glowing blond, though her eyes were bluer than the bluest of seas, and the clearest of skies, her hair was let down reaching just past her shoulders and her smile, her smile was the smile of a true goddess. And then there was me, i had skin similar to my brother Delenious if not a little bit lighter but no less smooth, but my hair was a bright orange, it looked as though a fire was set ablaze on my head, the only thing redder being my eyes, which were a deep crimson with what looked like gray smoke drifting through them. This was us.
As soon as everything was taken in and memorized the light around us began t swirl, faster and faster it spun and flew darting sporadically around the trees until it began rushing in towards us, gathering in the center into a ball growing bigger and bigger, warmer and warmer until it surpassed the size of our world yet still it grew, until it stopped and began moving away, seeming to get smaller and smaller now, cooler and cooler, yet not even close to as cool as before, until it was a small yellow ball in the sky that shone its light onto the world around us leaving behind only about 100 or so little balls of light hanging in the pathway of trees where all this started, held together by wispy black shadows.
As we looked out to see what we could not before, it was as though it was all being built from nothing. Clouds of brown dust and yellow sand swirled together, creating mountains that were than topped with a blinding white powdery snow, and deserts that immediately sprouted cactus, and forests that sprung from the dirt, trees flying into the sky growing taller and taller of all different shapes and colors, it was the birth of a new world, and we witnessed it all.
After the world was done coming to gethere we gathered around again in a circle, looking at each other again so as to be sure we remembered correctly and then we wandered, but with a purpose this time with a curiosity and an excitement to begin our real lives in this real world.
